In the first part of this class, students will learn about solar energy, career opportunities in solar energy and climate science topics focusing on urban heat islands. In the second part, students will work in project-based teams to research local issues and possible solutions for potential risks related to heat island, climate, and the benefits of solar energy. Students will design a solution for your school, utilizing data from the solar panels throughout Virginia. Student groups will present their findings/solutions, and students are eligible for funding to implement their climate / solar sustainable solutions ($300/school). IMPORTANT - Students must attend an after-school introduction to the class on September 25th. Dispositions: Intellectual Curiosity, Community Engagement, Articulation.
