It is estimated that almost 1 in 3 people in the US will be diagnosed with cancer at some point in their lives. While we have come a long way in the fight against cancer, there is still much left to be understood. In this course, the basics of cancer in and outside of clinical settings will be discussed. Students will learn about very basic cancer biology, cancer trends and healthcare disparities, the nature of cancer treatments, interprofessional collaboration in cancer care, patient advocacy, and ways to help cancer patients now and going into the future. In this course, students will also discuss groundbreaking cancer research and create and present plans as groups to contribute to the fight against cancer.
