Each week, students will read a short story and engage in productive discussion. Students will learn to appreciate diverse viewpoints, understand the components of a short story, and engage in productive discussion with instructor and peers. Students will explore the world through the perspective of various short story writers and will be encouraged to further research new ideas that emerge from this exploration. A major component of the class is guided discussion of the texts, which fosters the development of interpersonal skills as students learn to express diverse viewpoints without acrimony and practice active listening skills.
