Books: Each quarter, students will be required to complete the reading and assignments for a choice novel.  For these selections, students will complete Personalized Learning Playlist assignments to prove mastery of desired skills and standards. (See Quarter Reading List Tabs for more information on each novel.)

• QUARTER 1"Empathy" Choice Novels: Sleeping Freshmen Never Lie, House on Mango Street, Absolute True Story of a Part-Time Indian

• QUARTER 2 "Leadership" Choice Novels: The Chocolate War, In the Time of the Butterflies, & The Hunger Games

• QUARTER 3 "Dreams and Aspirations" Choice Novels: The Joy Luck Club, Enrique's Journey, & A Place Where the Sea Remembers

• QUARTER 4 "Actions & Legacy" Choice Novel: Tuesdays with Morrie (Required Reading for all Puente Freshmen)

The majority of these texts are available from the Poly Library, but students are welcome, and encouraged, to purchase their own copies of the novels if they prefer to annotate directly in their books.

Materials Needed:

• · Chromebook or personal device with access to all required online programs 

• One 3-Ring Binder with Dividers

• · College-Ruled Notebook Paper 

• · Pens/Pencils

• · Highlighters

• · Puente Planner (will be provided to all Puente students)

• · Access to Google Classroom, Google Drive, Study Sync, & Aeries Portal (log-in/password required)
