Community Service & Cultural Connections

Community Service

"No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted." - Aesop

Puentistas are required to complete community service hours during each year of the Puente experience. The purpose is to provide students the opportunity to give back to the community in ways that expand their knowledge of the school they attend and the city they live in.

The largest community service project for the Poly Puente Program occurs during the holiday season when Puente hosts our Annual Holiday Toy Drive with donations going to Angela's Wishes charity, which collects toys to be donated to local children's hospitals. Each year, Puente collects over 100 toys to donate to children in need!

Cultural Events

The beauty of our world lies in the diversity of our people, and Poly Puente encourages students to expand their knowledge and appreciation for all cultures! Through guided lessons, literature, celebrations, and shared experiences, Puentistas learn the value of culture!

California latino School Board's Annual Unity Conference

In 2018, students had the opportunity to attend the California Latino School Board Association's Annual Unity Conference in Del Mar, California. Students were able to hear from California State Assemblyman, Jose Medina, and California State Superintendent of Public Instruction, Tom Torlekson.

Students attended seminars on Cultural Identity and Diversity, Cultural Empowerment, and Promoting College & University Awareness.

Puente Senior, Cassandra Godinez, was also recognized for her achievements and was awarded a scholarship from the California Latino School Board Association! Congratulations, Cassandra!
