Plaque Inscription
Maryville was built around 1880 from local limestone on a bluestone foundation. The house has red brick window surrounds and brick chimneys with terracotta chimney pots added in more recent times. The front verandah, which has been reconstructed, has a concave roof on timber framing.
In 1883 the owner of Maryville was recorded as Malen Rumbelow. It is likely that the name Maryville came from Malen's wife, Mary nee Glassenbury. Malen, with his father and brother-in-law Cain Jelliff, began a fishing industry out of Encounter Bay which resulted in the name Rumbelow becoming so well known that the little township of Yilki was referred to locally as Rumbelowtown.
