Hello from South Africa. I am related to Emma Rumbelow through her daughter Edith Watson who married William Nurse. My great grandmother was Adelaide Bessie Nurse and my grandmother was Adelaide Saunders Drake Eyre. My mother's name is Sandra. I have only this afternoon discovered the Rumbelow website after I did a Google search for "ER Bolger store Australia" as we have a photo and I had seen his name on a post card to my great grandmother.

I have emailed a lot of photos to Charlie Rumbelow from the website. We have quite a few unknown photos that i'm hoping someone can help with identification. The man we thought was Thomas Watson now looks to be Robert Bolger in the photos with Emma, which was a big surprise. I will put up unknown photos soon and would so appreciate help.

The Nurse family : William George Nurse was born in Pietermaritzburg South Africa. His mother sent him to pay her Greenacres account in Durban, but instead of paying he took a ship to Australia. While living there he met and married Edith Emma Watson. My great grandmother Adelaide and her sister Ruby were born in Australia. The rest of the children were born in South Africa.

I know that the family did go to Australia around about the start of the Boer War. They apparently dug a hole in the back garden and buried their furniture. According to what I have gleaned from my great gran's post cards I think that she must have also visited her Australian relatives.

Hi I’m Nicola, a mom of 2 kids and 2 pet kids and married to a wonderful supportive man for 25 years and counting. We live in Kloof which is outside the city of Durban in South Africa. I love doing crafts and my all time favourite craft is anything to do with pretty paper. I also love stationery, especially notebooks and I have quite a collection. I find it very hard to use a pretty notebook.

There are many fabulous coffee shops and other places to visit in Kwazulu-Natal, South Africa and I love to write about what I have seen and experienced. I love to travel and it is always a treat for me to be able to go on a trip. South Africa is a beautiful country and I am always in awe when I see our majestic Drakensberg mountains.

I’m a proper coffee person – no instant coffee trash! We buy South African roasted coffee and grind the beans at home so that we can drink a fresh cup. We make our coffee using a BODUM French press and also using an AeroPress. When I’m at a coffee shop either chatting with friends or people watching I love to enjoy a cappuccino.

William George Saunders (great grandson of Emma Rumbelow) was in the South African navy and in 1951 they visited Australia. He connected with some family members and they wrote letters to each other during his visit and after his return to South Africa. He saw Winifred Hopkins (nee Watson) and her daughter Winnifred Hall. He also saw Estella Mary Ann Browne (nee Watson) and her daughter Winifred Marr + other family members.

Cousins William George Saunders and Terry Hall, of Kilkenny, sat on the harrel of a four-inch gun on HMSAS Transvaal at Port Adelaide yesterday and viewed landmarks. The South African frigate was opened yesterday for public inspection. It will sail today for Fremantle.
