Space for storage of personal items can be limited in small bedrooms. Design a wall or floor-mounted unit which will provide storage for personal items.
(a) List four additional points about the function of such a wall or floor-mounted unit that you consider to be important.
Suitable answers (you only need 4) could be:
The unit should accommodate a number of personal items such as books and a phone. It could also store keys, chargers, headphones etc.
The unit should fit in with the surroundings of the room so as to match the styling
The unit should provide easy access to the stored items
The unit needs to be stable (sturdy) if it is floor mounted i.e. it will not fall over
The unit should be easy to clean (dust)
The unit could include shelves or dividers if it is wall mounted, or drawers if it is floor mounted
The unit should be compact and make the best use of the space as it is a small bedroom
The unit should be suitable for a child of any age
The unit should be aesthetically pleasing (looks good) so that it fits in with the small bedroom and makes the user want to use it
The unit should be easy to assemble or install (fit to the wall)
The unit could use recycled materials such as heat pressed, laser cut sheet so it is more enviornmentally friendly. It could use FSC timber to be more environmentally friendly
The unit should be safe to use so it must not have sharp edges or screws / nails sticking it. Corner edges should be rounded.
Use sketches and notes to show two methods that could be used to make valuable personal items secure from theft in such a wall or floor-mounted unit.
