Artist Statement

My artwork is on an 8 x 10 canvas. It is painted black, with white marker lettering that says “Copyright Infringement” twice with a red Ⓒ. I chose to create this piece after I researched the 27th article of The Universal Declaration of Human Rights. This article is about copyright and intellectual property. This is a big issue today because people keep on stealing artworks and don’t pay attention to fair use. I also found out in my research any piece of art that is created is immediately protected by copyright law. There are many artists that want to change the copyright law so that their art is better protected from being illegally used or stolen. 

When people look at my artwork, I hope that they can learn something about copyright, and about hard work. I hope they will think twice about taking someone else’s artwork for their own use.
