In this assignment, I was told to experiment with texture in photography: patterns, eye-catching contrast, etc. I produced a total of ten final products: ten original photographs paired with their edited counterparts. I marched around, camera in hand, to take more close-up photos of everyday textures and patterns. This may have been petals overlapping on a small houseplant, stones stacked in a winding rock wall, or even my cat's fluffy fur. Using photo editing, I tried to make the photos a little more dramatic: more obvious shadows, higher contrast, brighter colors, and other methods seemed to work well. I tried not to choose patterns/textures that were too repetitive, and if they happened to be that way, I tried my best to spice it up a little with camera angle or selective focus. Next time I'd like to dive a little deeper into texture; some photos are nice but others aren't as interesting to me and I wish I had changed that. Focusing on composition along with capturing interesting textures was a little difficult for me to balance, and sometimes I get a little caught up in following strict rules which tend to limit the unique artistic aura that could be clear in my images otherwise. However, a select few photos I captured are ones that I quite like, and find pleasing to look at. I hope to do better in the future.
