Favorite Images

Below are some of my favorite edited images from my project, and why I believe I've improved because of them.

In this image, I liked how I cropped it from the original. The zoom lens I had on my camera helped me capture the bee from far away, but there was still a lot of extra landscape and space in the image. I tried to use the rule of thirds to position the bee and flower, and I think that turned out nicely. I also used my learning of how to apply the sharpen, burn, and dodge tools to make the bee stand out more than it had in the original image.

What I like most about this image is its detail and select focus. I wanted the image to be quite sharp, which I achieved in Photoshop, and made the background more blurry to emphasize the dandelion rather than the grass and trees behind it. I also tried using the burn and dodge tools to add contrast.

I like the shadow in this image contrasting with the bright lighting because it has a different mood than some of my other images. It stands out and the face of the subject is the most noticeable feature. Trying to create a variety of images led me to vary the editing for this one, and I think the result was worth it.

This image was meant to be a still life of an object at an interesting angle to again vary the kinds of photos I edited. I like how it turned out and my decision to emphasize the contrast and highlights of the object. It also uses a bit of informal balance like a lot of my other images, meaning it each side of the image has a very different use of space (most often, one side of my image is mostly empty space compared to where the subject is placed—I tend to favor that rather than putting the subject in the center).

What I like most about this image is the color scheme. The setting happened to have an already set color scheme rather than me having to do a lot of editing to balance it out, and the blue/white worked very nicely with the composition. I tried to emphasize that use of color in my editing.

I edited a lot of images of flowers because they're a naturally beautiful subject for photography, but I like this one the most due to the select focus, position of the flower, bright colors, and sharpness. Near the leaves there is a bit of evidence of error in my photo editing (there were lines in the background I wanted to get rid of and color over with the paintbrush tool), but I think it is overshadowed by the rest of the image.

I liked this image quite a bit even before editing. I thought the leading lines and the bit of bright color that the flowers provided made for a naturally photograph-worthy setting. I tried to emphasize that contrast between the flowers and setting as well as the lighting when editing to improve it.

This is another naturally interesting setting I took a photo of, but I appreciate the editing in this image because the highlights, saturation, and contrast ended up fitting the water perfectly. I think the plants and rocks near the bottom make the image more interesting, but don't make it too complicated.
