Story in 5 Photos

The following is a story told in 5 photos featuring my dog, Lucky (and my hand a few times.) The artist statement is at the very bottom. There are captions beneath each photo explaining what is happening in the story. Enjoy!

I reach for my dog's toy.

My dog notices.

My dog is protective of her dog toy, taking it for herself before I can take it.

As I reach for the toy again, she looks angry.

My dog and I have a tug of war with the toy.

In this project, I was required to take 5 photos that told a story. To do that, I looked around my house, but the only other person in there at the time was my father, who was on a call for work in the other room. Wandering around with my camera, I came across my dog and my cat. I took various photos of them but none of them really fit into a story. Then, I started to play with my dog, and got some photos of that. That's when I realized I could tell a rather lighthearted story of me playing with my dog. Lucky (my dog) doesn't like it when people move or touch her toys, so I held the camera in one hand and did the actions with the other, so the story was sort of told from my perspective. Lucky noticed her toy had been moved so I quickly snapped a photo of that, then snapping some pictures of her playing with her toy. I cautiously reached for it again, and that made her angry, and so on. (Taking a photo of my dog was difficult because of all the movement, but her expressions are pretty great in most of these.) I like being with my dog and I find it cute that she gets protective of her stuff even when people try to just move it out of the way, so I decided to capture that. During editing, I tried to make the subjects of the photos (my hand, my dog, the toy) stand out and be clear. Since I had to capture these photos pretty quickly, there isn't as much of a variety of angles or compositional techniques as I would have liked there to be. However, I did try to make the emotions and expressions of my dog very clear, which I like. Sometimes photos that portray emotion and expression are nice in my opinion. If i were to redo this project, however, I'd like to not be stuck at home with not many people around. It didn't give me as much variety as I would have liked to have. The photos are sort of similar, which makes it less interesting. Overall, this project is alright.
