Exploring Photo Edits

Original images are at the top, and edited images are below the originals. Artist statement is located below. I hope you enjoy my Exploring Photo Edits project.

In this exploration of photo editing, I chose three photos I had taken of various places around Freeport High School and adjusted certain aspects of them such as cast and highlights in the photos application on my laptop. For each of the three photos I took, there are three separate edits/finished products shown. Each have different appearances in some way, shape, or form due to different aspects of them being changed. (For example, an edited photo with a high brightness may look far lighter than one with a low brightness. A photo with a higher cast may have warmer colors than one with a much lower cast.) During this process, I made sure to choose three unique photos so that each group of edits were also unique. During the photo editing process itself, I made sure to do the same: I adjusted different settings for different versions of the same photo, making sure each edit was different in its own way. This may have been done by drastic changes (giving one edit a very high cast and another a very low cast for warmer or cooler colors,) or more subtle changes (one edit keeps the same shadows setting as the original while another's shadows are a bit more visible and prominent.) I enjoyed playing with with certain settings to give edits nice color schemes, give them a dreamier or more dramatic aura, and so on. I believe the finished products of this project are fairly successful; as I look back on these edits I feel satisfied with how I experimented with photo editing to make original and compelling images.
