The Freeport Middle School Spring Parent-Teacher Conferences will be taking place in a few weeks. They have a different setup than our fall conferences. There is no sign-up required for the spring conferences. All teachers will be at different tables to conduct conferences. Parents will walk around to the tables to meet with their child’s teachers. Students can come with you to the conferences (not required).
The 8th grade and UA conferences will be held in the gym on Tuesday, March 17th, from 2:45 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. 8th grade families will have an opportunity to speak with teachers about High School course selection and a representative from Region 10 will be present.
The 6th and 7th-grade conferences will be on Thursday, March 19th, from 2:45 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
The 6th grade showcase will be in the cafeteria and the teachers' tables will be set up in the library.
The 7th grade conferences and showcase will be in the gym.

Please do not pull into the bus circle in front of the building during the hours of 11am-12:30pm. This is our recess time and students are in the circle. Please use the lower parent pickup during these hours. Thank you!
Senior Auction!
Dear RSU5 Families,
The Freeport High School Senior Class Auction has begun! All proceeds from the auction go toward Project Graduation, an event after graduation planned to keep our FHS graduates safe and substance-free, and to have a fun event to celebrate such an important milestone in their lives!
Bidding is open from Sunday, February 22, at 12:00 pm and runs until Sunday, March 8, at 6:00 pm.

If your student is going to be absent or late, please contact the school at 865.6051 (you can leave a message in the general mailbox) or email fmsattendance@rsu5.org
If your student is late and you are dropping them off, they can walk themselves in. They will sign in in the office and then head to class. You do not need to walk them into school.
If you are dismissing your student you must call ahead, preferably in the morning or send an email to fmsattendance@rsu5.org. We will dismiss your student out of class. They will sign out in the main office and then wait for you to pull in front of the building for pick up. You do not need to come in and sign your student out.
For absences of 3 or more consecutive days (e.g., family vacations) please complete and extended absence form and submit it two weeks in advance.
Your students will check their emails during bcs (end of the day). If you have any information/change of plans, you can email your student and/or call the main office.
Month of March BASE lesson topics:
6th grade: Digital Citizenship: Lessons to teach students to be safe, responsible, and healthy as they navigate their online world. Includes discussions around cellphones, computers, and apps.
7th grade: All or Nothing Thinking: Defines all-or-nothing thinking, describes healthy alternatives to dysfunctional habits, highlights the impact of limited thinking, and provides pathways to problem solve and moderate extremes.
8th grade: Erin's Law Assertive Communication: Define assertive communication and its key components. Express thoughts and feelings clearly and respectfully. Understand the importance of using assertive communication as a tool for personal safety and boundary-setting

Art club meets every Tuesday from 2:20 - 3:00 in the Art Room! All are welcome!
No need to sign up, just show up! Students can join on a “drop in” basis - they can come every week, or whenever they have time to make art.
Art Club is an open studio space where students can create art with choice!

Are you fascinated by space, NASA missions, rocketry, and the history of space exploration? Join the Space Explorers Club to dive into the wonders of the universe! Together, we’ll learn about past and present space missions, explore rocketry and engineering challenges, and discover the people and events that shaped space history.
The club meets on the 2nd and 4th Mondays of each month (see the meeting calendar for specific dates). All 6th, 7th, and 8th graders are welcome - no experience required, just curiosity and excitement about space.

Taekwondo
Wednesdays 2:30-3:00pm
Come learn an introduction to the traditional Korean martial art of Taekwondo!
Learn basic kicking and striking skills, self protection and defense skills, and traditional forms and patterns for the new student.
You'll also learn ways to improve your physical fitness and focus while developing a positive attitude in your daily life!
Come try out some classes and start on a track to achieving your first belt!
Classes taught by Mr. Chasse Taekwondo instructor.
Sweatpants and a t-shirt will be all you need to start.

The office or your parents may send you alerts for changes in plans.
The school day ends at 2:20. Make sure to have a "backup" plan (especially if clubs/practices/games are cancelled). All kids need to know if they are walking home, getting picked up, or riding a bus (FMS does not need to know the plan). They can have different plans on different days without letting us know, just make sure your child knows.
