If your student is going to be absent or late, please contact the school at 865.6051 (you can leave a message in the general mailbox) or email fmsattendance@rsu5.org
If your student is late and you are dropping them off, they can walk themselves in. They will sign in in the office and then head to class. You do not need to walk them into school.
If you are dismissing your student you must call ahead, preferably in the morning or send an email to fmsattendance@rsu5.org. We will dismiss your student out of class. They will sign out in the main office and then wait for you to pull in front of the building for pick up. You do not need to come in and sign your student out.
For absences of 3 or more consecutive days (e.g., family vacations) please complete and extended absence form and submit it two weeks in advance.
Your students will check their emails during bcs (end of the day). If you have any information/change of plans, you can email your student and/or call the main office.
Greater Portland Health's Children’s Oral Health Program provides dental services on-site at Freeport Middle School. By enrolling your child, you provide them with access to on-site dental cleanings with a Greater Portland Health Dental Hygienist.
Please complete the Children’s Oral Health Program Enrollment Form at the following link - Enrollment Form - to allow your student to receive dental cleanings at their school. Enrollment is optional and open to all students, regardless of where they get their primary care.
If you filled out a dental enrollment form for your child last year and they remain in a Cumberland County School District, you do not need to complete a new one. If you have any questions, please call 207-874-2141 option 7, visit our website, or contact your school nurse’s office (erskinem@rsu5.org).
Dear parents and guardians,
We are excited to share information about the social-emotional learning curriculum that we will continue to use this school year at FMS as part of our advisory curriculum. The 7 Mindsets (BASE) is a comprehensive program designed to build a positive productive school culture and connections that support our students' well-being. BASE is an evidence-based program that is designed to improve student behavior, engagement, and academic success. We will share a parent login that will allow you to see the lessons your child is working on so you can have conversations at home to reinforce their learning. Some topics your child will be exploring: building self-esteem, managing emotions, peer pressure, goal setting, managing stress, and building social skills. We are excited to continue with this program and to share information on important teen topics with all of you.

Bonjour 8th grade families!
The 8th grade trip to Quebec City will take place Memorial Day weekend (May 22-24, 2026) this year. Students will head to Quebec City on Friday (our last Fab Friday) and return on Sunday evening. That means they will have time to participate in the Memorial Day parade if they are in band and then have some time to relax before returning to school.
Merci beaucoup!
Madame Davis

Dear Families,
Do you have a band instrument at home that is no longer being used? Our school is collecting gently used instruments to become part of the district instrument loan inventory. This allows RSU 5 to lend instruments to families in need for free.
We are looking for flutes, clarinets, saxophones, trumpets, trombones, baritones, and percussion kits. If you would like to contribute, please drop off instruments at the school office during regular hours. Your generosity will help our program grow and give students the gift of music.
Thank you for your support!
Sincerely,
Erin York

All kids need to know if they are walking home, getting picked up, or riding a bus (FMS does not need to know the plan). They can have different plans on different days without letting us know, just make sure your child knows.
Please review your students demographics in PowerSchool.
