This class has presented me with challenges that I have never had to deal with before. I became frustrated often and it took more will power than ever to be able to stick with projects and see them until the end. Working with sculpture is all about being able to use your creative side but also your practical side. It takes being able to take the time to learn a material and how it works. You need to stick with it and be patient until you can figure out how to get it to do what you want it to do. This was something I had to learn the hard way through this class, but in the end it taught me something very valuable.
One of the most memorable projects of this year was the bust project. It took the maximum amount of patience to be able to sculpt a ball of clay into something that resembles a human head. I pushed and prodded the clay for what seemed like an eternity with no pay off. I was ready to give up many times, but Mrs. Medsker and a little voice in the back of my head kept telling me not to give up. When the time came that the ball of clay began to look like a head was a moment of pride and accomplishment. Looking back I would've have done it any differently, hard work shows through in projects like this and this has taught me to not give up even when it seems like you can't do it.
The skills I will continue to use from 3D are more mental than physical. I have learned drive and motivation as well as patience with certain materials. Sculpture making is difficult but also fun. It is amazing to see your work come to life in 3D form.
