Accelerated Reader (AR) seeks to support independent reading by helping students select, read, and experience success with books that are at an appropriate level of challenge. Students will take the STAR test three times a year to obtain a reading zone. At the beginning of each 9 week period, students will be given a new goal.

Students will be taught how to use their reading zone to find books in the library. After reading an AR book, the student will take a quiz to test their comprehension of that book. Quizzes can be taken at school from 7:00-2:30. Each quiz has 3-10 questions. At the end of each quiz, a report is generated (TOPS). This report tells the student and teacher the score and points earned on that quiz, how they are progressing towards their goal, and what level they are on the Reading wall of fame.

Students can check-out AR books from the library every morning from 7:00-7:25 a.m., every afternoon from 2:10-2:25 p.m., or during their weekly library class. If a student is unable to check-out a book during those times, they can read books from the website MyON, which can be accessed at home through their Clever accounts.
