"My Story"
Week 1
This week, students created a series of self-portraits aimed at showcasing who they were, who they hope to become, and everything in between. Students learned to express themselves through visual arts and gained hands-on experience using watercolors, polymer clay, soft pastels, charcoal, and a variety of mixed-media.
Of course, students also worked on reading and math skills with guided daily lessons.
"Dog House Sports"
Week 2
This week, students worked on exercising their brains and muscles. They practiced new math skills, worked on reading and writing skills, analyzed literature, and read a whole lot. Afternoons were spent learning and playing new sports and games. Students rotated through basketball, kickball, soccer, volleyball, and dodgeball stations all week.
"Fine Arts"
Week 3
This week, students studied classical and contemporary visual artists, such as Pablo Picasso, Claude Monet, Georges Seurat, Jackson Pollock, Warhol, Frida Kahlo, Takashi Murakami, and Kara Walker . Each day, students read biographies, watched videos, and examined the artwork of the selected master. They discussed the artist’s style and the impact his/her work had on the world. Then, students tried their hands at creating an original artwork in the style of the master.
