RPS Guidance on the use of AI

Rockford Public Schools does not block the access to AI or digital tools that use embedded AI. Teachers are encouraged to explore the use of AI as a part of their professional practice and to understand how and when AI may enhance the work they are doing with teaching and learning.

Students should not be required to create accounts to AI services that require use of personal information, limit access to over 18 years, or require paid subscription.

Example AI Policies

Gemini is the Google suite AI tool. It can be located by searching Google Gemini or using this link. Gemini is only accessible for RPS staff as it has an age restriction of over 18. The Gemini chatbot can be used to brainstorm, create materials and do research.

All RPS teachers and admin have premium access to Magicschool.ai This Educator specific AI tool has premade bots trained to perform typical teacher tasks such as report card comments, text leveling, assessment creation, BIPs and Lesson planning aligned to standards.

All RPS teachers and students have premium access to Magic Student as a part of Magic School. This tool is a safe, managed way to allow students to learn to use AI for learning.

Teachers can create educational use bots and assign to students. Students will sign in using Google and all of their chats are recorded and accessible to the teacher.
