The National Speech & Debate Association Speaking and Service Award recognizes students who have reached the maximum number of service points in the student Honor Society. From more than 130,000 members, fewer than 717 students received this recognition. This is .5% of NSDA Members. The National Speech & Debate Association’s Honor Society recognizes students for participation in speech and debate activities. Students earn distinction through speech and debate competition, as well as community service, public speaking, and leadership activities. Example service activities include judging a speech or debate round or coaching a practice for younger competitors.
Student who earn 200 points in one academic year with the deadline each year being July 31 and ending August 1 each year. This award is capped at 200 points in a system where each hour of service equates to 2 points.
In 2003, the President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation founded the President’s Volunteer Service Award to recognize the important role of volunteers in America’s strength and national identity. This award honors individuals whose service positively impacts communities in every corner of the nation and inspires those around them to take action, too.
The PVSA has continued under each administration, honoring the volunteers who are using their time and talents to solve some of the toughest challenges facing our nation.
Students much complete a set amount of hours to meet the different levels of this award contingent on their age. The first 100 hours much be submitted on NSDA first and kept on a spreadsheet submitted to the Westwood coaching staff. 60% of your hours for PVSA must be in directly in submit of the team.

Submitting NSDA Points
The National Speech and Debate Association runs their annual year from August 1st to July 31st. Student must submit and receive approval for any service prior to July 30th each year to receive credit for the the season.
