Structure and Functions

The student is expected to explore how structures and functions of plants and animals allow organisms to survive in a particular environment.

In second grade, students observed, recorded, and compared how the physical characteristics and behaviors of animals help them meet their basic needs. Also, students observed, recorded, and compared how the physical characteristics of plants helped them meet their basic needs Students also studied how an animal’s basic needs are met by using their physical characteristics and behaviors to help them.

In third grade, students will focus on how plant and animal structures help them survive in a specific type of environment or ecosystem.
