Find a 'Just-Right' books

  • Choose a book and read two or three pages.

  • Ask yourself these questions:

*Will it be an easy, fun book to read? *Do I understand what I am reading?*Do I know almost every word?*When I read it aloud, can I read it smoothly?

(If most of your answers were "yes", this will be an easy book to read independently by yourself.)

As you are reading your 'just right' book, you should stop and jot when you have a wondering, a thought, a feeling, a connection, or you learn something new or interesting. When you stop, write it down a post-it or strip of paper. Use the sentence starters for help.
