Call Experience
Call experience provides rich clinical opportunities to provide emergency airway services, anesthesia services for obstetrical labor analgesia, and anesthesia for emergent surgical cases. Students are eligible to take call from Clinical Residency III through Clinical Residency VI. Students understand that call schedules will vary with clinical sites, and will entail either staggered shift hours, e.g., 11 am – 9 pm or overnight in-house or from-home call, including weekends. Regardless, of the call schedule, hours must be consistent with COA rest period guidelines. When the student is on call, the nurse anesthetist or anesthesiologist on call must also be present during the call.
Call experiences should not be arranged to gain an advantage in manipulating clinical hours. Any concerns by the coordinator related to scheduling should be communicated with the faculty at RFU.
