The book of John is unique among the Gospel accounts in terms of its style and literary design. John claims in the opening chapter that not only is Jesus the Messiah but he's also the son of God who gives eternal life to everyone who believes in his name. John supports this claim through highlighting Jesus' signs and miracles and the literary brilliance of the book. For example, John relies heavily on the symbolic patterns of seven throughout his account. Seven times Jesus answers "I Am" when people question his identity. And Jesus makes clear that those who believe he is the Messiah and the son of God will experience rebirth and total freedom and salvation from their former lives of sin.
