Course Summary

This is an extremely popular and interesting academic subject that taps into the interests of teenagers of all abilities who regularly access the Media through TV & computers, films, magazines, gaming and mobile phones.

Students will need to have an active interest in reading as well as accessing the news & current affairs by watching or listening to it on TV, radio, online. Students who enjoy media regularly read newspapers and students are encouraged to discuss what they have read in lessons and for homework.  

Students who enjoy listening to music, watching films & playing computer games will enjoy this subject but it is important to note that all students are required to write and analyse what they enjoy & watch in the form of essays and regular research homework tasks involving extensive reading. There are two written exams at the end of Year 11, meaning 3 hours of written examination.

The course is taught in a large state of the art Media Suite with the latest computers, Multi-Media, HD TV, big screen, surround sound, Blu Ray, Netflix and SKY. Pupils will complete various units in Year 10 on understanding the Media including Media Theory, Marketing & Advertising and Music Videos. Pupils will complete a practical production in Year 11 and sit two written exam papers on media topics.
