Course Summary
WJEC Level 1/2 Vocational Awards enable learners to gain knowledge, understanding and skills relating to a specific vocational sector. In addition to development sector specific knowledge and understanding, these qualifications also support learners to develop the essential employability skills that are valued by employers, further and higher education.
WJEC Level 1/2 Vocational Awards are designed primarily for 14-16 year old learners in a school environment and include an element of external assessment through either a written exam or controlled assignment. Students will be graded L1 Pass, L2 Pass, L2 Merit, L2 Distinction, L2 Distinction*
This qualification and course would be suitable for students who:
Love to cook and present food in interesting and creative ways.
Are interested in nutrition.
Are interested in current eating threads and habits.
Are interested in the restaurant /hospitality industry.
Are able to prepare and bring ingredients to every practical lesson.
There is the opportunity to learn about issues related to nutrition and food safety and how they affect successful hospitality and catering operations. In this qualification, learners will also have the opportunity to develop some food preparation and cooking skills as well as transferable skills of problem solving, organisation and time management, planning and communication.
Through the two units, learners will gain an overview of the hospitality and catering industry and the type of job roles that may be available to assist them in making choices about progression. Successful completion of this qualification could support entry to qualifications that develop specific skills for work in hospitality and catering such as:
Level 1 Certificate in Introduction to Professional Food and Beverage Service Skills
Level 2 Certificate in Professional Food and Beverage Service Skills
Level or Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Professional Cookery
