Springfield’s Best Antique Shop: Sangamon Antique Mall
As an antique mall frequenter, I believe that the Sangamon Antique Mall is the mall with the widest selection of items in the Springfield area. It surpasses the quality and quantity of many of the malls that I have visited in other areas as well. The mall contains three floors that are filled to the brim with beautiful and strange antiques. It is open from 10:00am to 5:30pm every day. The area around the mall is quite urban and busy, but the inside of the mall is quiet and tranquil.

A visit to this mall should take two to three hours, as the three floors contain an incredibly expansive selection of items. In my experience, visiting for an hour is enough time to cover roughly half of the first and second floors. The personalities of the mall’s staff are welcoming and friendly. Their charm is inviting and makes you want to stay. The prices of items in the mall can range from $15 to roughly $400. These prices may seem high, but the antique furniture stocked in the store is definitely worth the hefty price.
After entering the mall, stepping into the displays reveals labyrinthine rows of cases that cover the first floor. All of the cases are well lit and display the items inside nicely. Some sections of the first floor can have one or two cases full of related items. Many of these types of cases include antique fandom items, such as The Wizard of Oz or Snoopy. The first floor then continues towards the back of the store. This area is less organized than the cases and mostly contains booths. These booths usually contain less related items than the cases, and are mostly spaces for general antiques. There are some cases towards the back right corner of the store with World War II memorabilia.

The second floor is more welcoming and relaxed than the first floor case room. It contains more booths similar to those on the first floor, but most of these booths have more of a theme, or set of related items. The warm lighting and unfinished look of this floor bring an enchanting and mysterious look to the area. The items in this area fit this ambiance well, including many strange items as well as antique household items. There are many large and well seasoned cast iron pans waiting to be used again on this floor. However, the shaded atmosphere of this floor barely compares to that of the third floor.
The third floor holds the darkest and strangest atmosphere of the mall. There is very little lighting on this floor, and what it does illuminate is crowded and curious. It contains the most obscure and strange items of the mall. Many mysterious antique portraits with little to no information of the subject can be found here. Items from this floor are perfect for any Victorian or horror fan’s home or sitting room. There is a large section of this floor devoted to antique childrens’ toys. This floor contains so much more than what is listed, and there is no way for me to cover all that is there. It is truly the most intriguing section of the Sangamon Antique Mall.

The range of items that cover the Sangamon Antique Mall’s floors is nearly impossible to cover entirely in this writing. Some of the items in the store include utilities, cookware, vintage electronics, lighters, pipes, dolls, clothes, and decorations. This is hardly a comprehensive list. Bartering for lower prices on items should not be done, as most items are owned by outside booth owners, not the staff or store owners. There are a large number of sales that go on in specific booths that could get you a great deal.
Whether you are a local to the area, just moved here, or are just passing through, the Sangamon Antique Mall is a must visit location in Springfield. With the friendly staff and incredible selection of antiques, you are sure to find something worth buying. The mall is located at 3050 E Sangamon Ave, Springfield, IL 62702.
