Family friendly! Check Out Lake Springfield
If you are looking for something to do this summer, Lake Springfield is the perfect place to go. This 3,965 acre park is a pleasant surprise right on the outskirts of Springfield/Rochester, and it is an outdoor adventure waiting to happen. There is something for everyone to do. The kids can swim, and the adults can hang out with their friends. There are several activities to do in and around the lake.

The parks around the lake offer family fun, nature walks, and other great views for you and your family. If you are looking for a park to take your family to and have lunch or just throw a football around, then the Tom Madonia parks are a great place to visit. Between the two parks is a walkway where you can fish. To get to these parks, you need to walk or drive your car there. If you are looking for a park to go on a walk with your family or a park to take family photos, then I would recommend Lincoln Memorial Gardens. There, you’ll find many different nature walks in the fall to look at different trees and leaves, they have maple syrup walks where you can watch them take the syrup out of the trees, and they also have many different trails that you and your family can walk, run, or jog on. At many different points of the walk, you can look out over the water and get some Magnificent views.
Lake Springfield has several spots for fishing. These spots range from spots you can park and walk to all the way to park where you just walk from a friend’s house, to places only accessible by boat. These spots make Lake Springfield one of the best fishing destinations in the area. I like the sunset view and the view you have when you are fishing. Overall, it is just a great place to go fishing and hangout with friends. The lake also holds a few tournaments each year that you and a buddy can fish in. Most people fish for bass, bluegills, catfish, and crappie. If you are a part of one of the clubs around the lake, then you will be able to fish at their docks. One of my personal favorite spots to fish is Tom Madonia Park because I like catfishing with my friends and it is close to my house.

Looking for a great place to keep your boat for the summer? How about a place to relax and socialize with other locals? There are several clubs around the lake, and depending on where you live, you can choose one close to you. Some clubs offer food and drinks, and some offer you a boat slip so that you don’t have to put your boat in and out of the water each day. If you are just getting new to the area, then I would make sure to check out several options before making a decision.
El Taco Guapo, authentic tacos, nachos, drinks, and a cool view of the lake: all of this can be found at the lake's only public food spot. That would be at the Lake Springfield marina. Besides that you will have to travel about 5 or so minutes to get some food. If you are just getting off the lake and want to eat fast food, there are several restaurants within 10 minutes. If you are getting off the lake and want to sit down and eat with your family, then there are a few places that you could go to depending on what you want–Burgers, wings, tacos, steak, and many other foods are very good options just depending on what you like.

If you are in the relaxing mood, just take your boat and your family out to Lake Springfield. On the lake there are many spots where you can pull up and dock next to other boats. You can also swim in the lake. On the Fourth of July you can take your boat out and watch fireworks with your family. Party Cove is a great place to meet new people. Families can also rent a boat from the marina for the day. The cost for a boat would depend on how long you want to rent for and how many people you are taking, but the cost will range from 175 dollars to 675 dollars.
Overall the lake is an exciting place to take your family. There is something for everyone to do. It is a relaxing place to go after work, and if boating and swimming aren’t things that you like to do, the lake has other things for you like the parks and good views. Visit the Lake Springfield Marina at 17 Waters Edge Blvd, Springfield, IL 62712.
