What is Orienteering?

Often described as a "thought race," orienteering is a fast-paced sport that combines physical stamina with mental agility. Navigating through unfamiliar outdoor terrain using only a detailed topographic map and a magnetic compass, competitors race to locate a series of hidden checkpoints (control points) in the fastest time possible. Success demands quick decision-making under pressure, precise map-reading, and strategic route planning—making it an ultimate test of mind and body.

What Our Team Consists Of:

Our Orienteering Team brings together dedicated, high-spirited cadets who are passionate about outdoor adventure, physical fitness, and tactical land navigation. From beginners mastering basic compass skills to seasoned runners tackling complex, cross-country courses, our team fosters disciplined, confident leaders. Through regular practice and team conditioning, cadets develop strong problem-solving skills, endurance, and an unstoppable team spirit.

Where We Compete:

While our cadets frequently test their skills in high school competitions against other regional JROTC units, our arena goes far beyond military meets. To continually challenge ourselves and sharpen our navigational precision, our team regularly participates in civilian events hosted by the **Los Angeles Orienteering Club (LAOC)** and the **San Diego Orienteering Club (SDOC)**. Competing alongside experienced open-class navigators across Southern California’s diverse landscapes allows our team to take their skills to the highest level!
