Common jasmine is a type of fragrant flower that used to be planted in Sanchong. During the Japanese colonial period, Sanchong was the most important distribution center for common jasmine. Tea vendors made tea with it and exported the tea to many countries. With the rise of the tea industry, the lovely white flower became very valuable, and more people planted it. Therefore, its presence can be seen from the field of Sanchong to the banks of the Tamsui River.
However, because of the change in the economy, common jasmine almost disappeared.
Fortunately, cooperating with Sanchong Community University, Chang Ming-Hsiang (張明祥) and other cultural workers have started to work on the restoration project and have planted common jasmine in Sanchong and along the Tamsui River. Now we can appreciate common jasmine blossoms from April to November.
