Sanhe Night Market, a hidden night market 　in the midst of bustling streets

食字路口：三和夜市  隱匿於都市叢林的夜市

During rush hour, people in Sanchong and visitors gradually collect in Sanhe Night Market.

With various foods, drinks, and game stands, they can release the accumulated stress of the day. For example, braised food, stinky tofu, fried chicken fillet, and so on.

Among those mouth-watering snacks, “Kou, Shuang, Ping Spicy Stinky Tofu” is a renowned and must-mention restaurant.

Speaking of stinky tofu, most people may think of the strong smell of it. However, they may ignore that different cooking methods can also affect the flavor of stinky tofu.

In Taiwan, there are three common cooking methods for stinky tofu: fried, charcoal grilling, or slow cooking over low heat. The first two commonly emerge in food stands, while the latter usually appears in restaurants. “Kou, Shuang, Ping Spicy Stinky Tofu” belongs to the latter.

As you see in the picture, the stinky tofu is put in a pot-like bowl and soaked in an exclusive spice and numbing broth. There are some pickled mustard greens on the stinky tofu, which provides a sweet and sour flavor that goes well with the soup. Before you bite the tofu, you can use chopsticks to cut it into pieces. And then, add some pickled mustard greens and soup and eat in one go. The soft texture of tofu combined with its sweet, sour, and spicy flavors will give you an extraordinary experience.

In addition to delicious snacks, hand-shaken drinks are inevitable for people when they visit Sanhe Night Market in summer. For example, “Lemon Ai Yu Jelly” and “Bubble Milk Tea” are always popular drinks at the night market. Moreover, if visitors cannot beat the summer heat with the aforementioned beverages, they can also choose shaved ice to withstand the summer heat. There are also some traditional or modern shaved ice shops in the night market.

Last but not least, there is a central market erected in the middle of Sanhe Night Market. It is a modern building including different areas.   

On the first floor, there are several personal brandings and food stands for people to buy. Moreover, there is a seating area for people to have a good meal. visitors can leave the crowd for a while and take a rest with gentle light.

On the second floor, there is a great gaming area with a lot of arcade cabinets. For instance, racing game, shooting game, or Taiko no Tatsujin. Those nostalgic games will bring people back to their childhood. Visitors can play, shout, and smile to have fun in this game area. If they are tired, they can go to the seating area to take a break. Thus, it is a good place for people to spend their spare time after they finish delicious snacks. 　

To sum up, no matter which Sanhe Night Market (central market and street night market) you go, you can enjoy tasty foods and relax at night. So, what are you waiting for?
