At Risca Primary School we value all our children, parents, members of the community or visitors to our school. with this in mind we have a Safeguarding Policy designed to keep our children and school community as safe as possible.
As a parent or carer you have a vital role to play. Our school is a part of the community and you are so important in helping us keep children safe.
Staff will: -
Remember that the priority is to protect the child
Treat the matter seriously
Listen but do not judge
Believe the child
Tell the child they have done the right thing in talking to a safe adult
Tell the child what will happen where possible
Inform the Headteacher or Deputy Headteacher of all concerns immediately
Staff will not: -
Contact the parents - this is the job of the Headteacher/Deputy Headteacher or Social Services
Ask lots of questions if a child has told concerning information
Speak to anyone about whom the allegations are made (including colleagues)
Promise to keep secrets
Where school staff have concerns for a child, the headteacher or deputy headteacher will usually discuss this with the parent, but in some circumstances this will not be possible and Social Services may be called instead.
Senior Designated Person for Child Protection is our Head Teacher - Mrs Jayne Arthur
Deputy Designated Person for Child Protection is our Deputy Headteacher - Mrs R Farley
Any Safeguarding concerns should be reported to either of these senior leaders.
If you have a concern regarding the senior leaders, please contact our Chair of Governors - Mrs F Green who has a responsibility for Safeguarding and Child Protection in our school.
