Rikkyo University offers special international students (mostly incoming exchange students from partner institutions) five dormitories in cooperation with external contractors by signing the rental contract. All the rooms of each dormitory are single and furnished so that you can start your life in Japan smoothly. 

※Please note that this information is applicable to special international students only. Those who enroll at Rikkyo to seek a degree with the resident status of 'student' will need to find a place on their own. Here are tips for accommodation for degree-seeking international students.

① Schedule

By March 15：Submit request to enter a dormitory through the Web Application System

Mid-July*：Dormitory Notification through the Web Application System, Payment for the dormitory fee

Early September*：Move-in

*Detailed schedule will be sent to you in the message section of the web application system. Please make sure to check the information by yourself.

◎Please read the information on the web application site carefully and submit your request for admission to the dormitory.

• Please be sure to fill out the form if you have any information about living in the dormitory that should be communicated to us in advance.

Notes such as lifestyle, health (allergies, difficulty eating, climbing stairs, etc.) and religious precautions etc.

③Rules for the dormitory application

◎Dormitory and room assignment

• Rikkyo University makes all decisions regarding dormitory and room assignments depending on the number of incoming exchange students. Although there are differences in the dormitory fee and facilities among the five dormitories, only those who are willing to stay in any of the dormitories can apply for a room. Hence you cannot select or refuse any particular dormitory. Please note that your preference cannot be guaranteed due to the availability of rooms at each dormitory. 

• Once the housing arrangement is made by the university, you cannot change or cancel the accommodation. Therefore, you must read the information of the dormitories carefully and understand conditions completely before your application.

◎Payment of the dormitory fee 

• The dormitory fee will be charged per semester, and must be deposited directly into the designated bank account of the cooperated management company by the due date. Note that installment payments are not allowed. Hence, please consider well how to bear the dormitory fee before applying for the dormitories.

◎Revision of Dormitory Fees, etc.

• Please undersand that the information regarding the dormitories such as the dormitory fee and facilities which are explained in this website are subject to change in the future. 

◎Change or Cancellation of Dormitory Requests

In principle, once a dormitory contract has been signed, dormitory cannot be cancelled.

Please check the dormitory rules and regulations carefully before submitting your request to move-in to the dormitory.

The following five dormitories are open to special international students. Please check the outline of the rooms and the cost of entering the dormitory, and select the dormitory in the order in which you wish to reside, from first choice to fifth choice.

＜Frequent complaints about the rules from students＞

◎Curfew

From security viewpoint and in order to maintain quiet environment during the night, with a few exceptions, most of the front doors of the dormitory close at 12:00 a.m. . Be sure to return to the dormitory by the time the front door closes even when you have a part-time job at night. The curfew is deemed necessary mainly due to the strong insistence on strengthened security from the domestic students and their guarantors. 

On the other hand, there are many complaints from the exchange students regarding the curfew after they move in. While the International Office recognizes the differences in opinion and perception, please bear in mind that the security issue is too important and the curfew cannot be removed. In case you think that the curfew is too strict and you cannot possibly keep it,please refer to this page and try to find accommodation on your own. 

◎Smoking

In accordance to the Health Promotion Act, to keep the health of non-smokers and to prevent the damages of the second-hand smoke, Rikkyo University has promoted a smoking-free campus. Based on this idea, smoking is prohibited in the dormitories as well. Please note that smoking on the balcony is also prohibited. You will be charged for the cleaning of any wall discoloration caused by smoking.

◎Your contract term is set on a semester basis.

　・Spring Semster（April-July）⇒Late March-July 31 (Four months)

　・Fall Semster（September-February）⇒September 1-February 29 (Six months)

• In principle, you cannot move out during the contract period. However, if you must leave the dormitory in the middle of your contract period due to unavoidable reasons, there is a possibility that you may be allowed to do so with special permission from the International Center in advance and upon payment of all actual expenses incurred during the period of your stay.It is still your responsibility to bear the full amount of the dormitory fee for the entire term of the contract. There is a period during the year-end and New Year holidays when you cannot enter or leave the dormitory.

• Even If you move in to the dormitory after the designated contract period starts, the dormitory fee and other fees will be charged from the contract start date. 

• The contract start date differs every year.

• You cannot change dormitories or rooms in the middle of the contract.

--------Renewal of Housing Contract--------

• The full-year exchange students who reside in Rikkyo dormitories and wish to have their housing contract continued for the second semester of their stay, please make sure to submit by the designated deadline the Google form the International Office will sent in an e-mail titled as follows:

       Spring (April)  admission        ：early June

       Fall (September)  admission：early December

• When you continue to study at Rikkyo from spring semester to fall semester, you need to sign a contract from August to February. When you continue to study at Rikkyo from fall to spring semester, you  need to sign a contract from March to July. 

•  Please note that the maximum period of residence shall be up to 11 months even if you renew your first contract.

◎Move-in

・Moving-in to the dormitory should be on the date specified by the International Office.

・Available dates and times for leaving the dormitory are limited. Please check later for information from the International Office before booking your flight.

There are Rikkyo students who support your life in Japan in the dormitories. They are called 'resident supporters（RS)' and they live in the dorm and support your life in Japan.

Note that there is no resident support situated in Comfort Ikebukuro as it is apartment-type accommodation.
