There are a few options for audio books for students. Before requesting, please make sure a PAR protocol is run to determine which type of reader is best for your student -- human or computer voice. Each is a bit different and each may lead to different comprehension results. You may have someone in your building who is already trained and able to run PAR, or contact Laura Baxter if you'd like her to run it for you.
Link to Learning Ally Site Learning Ally is now available for the district, and based on 2019 teacher feedback, we have uploaded all the students you feel could benefit from this resource. Audio books on this site are read by a human reader, and some synthesized (computer) readers are now being added. Some books have synchronous highlighting, but not all. In addition, there are analytics and contests you can create. For more information or help you can sign up for webinars directly from the site, download their materials, or request help from Laura Baxter. If you responded to the 2019 survey, you have an account set up and should have received login credentials. Start by searching for a book! Add books to your student's bookshelf. Happy Reading! Here are quick-start materials.
Bookshare audiobook resource. Here is a quick-start guide for Bookshare settings.

What are good READERS to use for audiobooks? It depends on the audiobook and the type of device:
iPad app Voice Dream allows you to choose from Bookshare, Google Drive (audio files), and more
Learning Ally Link iPad app allows you to choose Learning Ally books
Kindle links to Amazon books
Computer Voice Reader: Bookshare
Has synchronous highlighting
Request a teacher account by emailing helpdesk@ridgefieldps.net
Bookshare website link: navigate to the link and then add it as a bookmark for later use
Add your student(s) as needed, by "adding members"
Create a reading list and assign members to that list
Make sure you get your booklist from the student's teachers -- and make sure you get, where possible, the same edition of the book
Human Voice Reader: Learning Ally - now adding more titles with computer generated voice
Learning Ally is now available for ALL STUDENTS at RPS.
Has a smaller book inventory than Bookshare, but has human voice, which for some students or some book types, is preferred. Has lots of good reading tools.
Elementary Level: some teachers and librarians across the country are recording their read-alouds on YouTube. This is an excellent way to offer an audio book for your young student who requires picture supports.
Storyline Online: access a library of books read by professionals
EPIC! Epic is free to teachers, who can then load student books for individual student use. Books are available as an audio, and some are available with picture support in the form of a read-aloud.
