Redden Court School was named the 100th best school for sport in the whole of the UK in 2024.

The prestigious honour was revealed in the 2024 annual ranking of the top 200 sporting schools across England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland by School Sport Magazine. The scale of the achievement covers sporting success in 2023.

Reaching the top 100 puts you in the top 3% of the country’s state or independent sporting schools while the top 200 puts you in the top 5%.

Schools usually have to reach the later stages of at least two, three or four national competitions to make the list. They cover up to 20 different sports and more than 120 different competitions. More weighting is given to success in a range of sports rather than single sports and those sports with more schools competing.

Our Journey

The Redden Court PE department endeavours to deliver a wide curricular and extra curricular programme to allow students to learn and progress in a number of different sports and activities. As well as the core PE programme, students in KS4 will have the opportunity to study GCSE PE. The department consists of six experienced teachers (three male and four female) who work closely to deliver core and credited PE lessons, an extensive extra curricular programme and many trips, both in the UK and overseas.

Within the last ten years, the department has had lots of extra curricular success, both on the boys and girls side. We have had many individual performers and sports teams crowned champions in Havering, Essex, London, Regional and National Level. The expectation of the department is that students work hard both in lessons and extra curricular clubs in order to improve their own and their teams performances and be the best sportsperson they can possibly be.

In 2019, we saw the start of the Redden Court Sports Academy (RCSA). The academy started alongside our Sporting Aptitude programme, where the school can select up to 10% of the intake based on a student's sporting aptitude. Students who gain entry to the school via the Sporting Aptitude programme and excel in PE and sport will have the opportunity to be selected for the Redden Court Sports Academy (RCSA). This process begins in Year 7 and allows the department to develop our students to become outstanding performers and eventually leaders and ambassadors.

In Year 9, 10 students are selected to be Sports Leaders. These leaders receive training from Havering Sports Collective and throughout the year, attend various primary school events such as Quad Kids and help deliver and lead these competition.

In Year 10, students at Redden Court will have the opportunity to become a Sports Captain. The role of the Sports Captain is to lead and organise house sports events as well as taking on leadership roles at primary school sports events within Havering and providing a lot of support in extracurricular clubs. Redden Court has some of the best Sports Leaders and Captains in the borough and we are always proud of our students when they take on these ambassadorial roles.
