Our Motivation

Driving Question: How can we create a resource for teachers that aids in the selection and diversification of literature within the classroom? 

Our decision to develop a resource based on literacy did not come easy. We decided to develop TK to Literacy due to the fact that literacy is the foundation of learning. After taking part in an English Language Arts course, as well as the Leading Literacy in the Middle Years course, we have been taught the significance of literature that serves a purpose to increase academic cognitive development, comprehension and overall engagement within the classroom. It has been proven that students who are invested in their learning process, learn best through educators who invest in resourceful literature. Rather than having students engage with the same material year after year, this resource will allow students to partake in a unique learning experience through innovative novel studies. It is vital that we as teachers develop a growth mindset in order for students to make connections to the real world, and strengthen students' confidence in the way they develop as readers. Our hope is that this resource will allow both students and teachers to participate in collaborative learning benefiting both teaching and learning.
