A NOTE FROM MRS. BONACCI,
Speech and Language Pathologist March 2020
Dear Students,
I want you to know that I MISS YOU and think about EACH ONE OF YOU every single day!! I hope that you are staying healthy, having some fun and learning a few things while you are at home! Hopefully, we will see each other in person before too long. My email address is cbonacci@rcscsd.org Please send a picture or write a note to me. I would love to hear from you!!!! In the meantime, your homework is to PLAY GAMES--BOARD or CARD games like Go Fish, Match Game, Trouble, BINGO or whatever you have!! Show your parents how good you are at naming the pictures and finding the same or matching cards . Use your words to ask “Do you have a…?” , at “tell something / describe” the picture. Be sure to take turns and that your parents or siblings do too! :) Last week, I left some activities for you on the “RCS Work From Home” website. I will be sending more things for you to do each week :) Watch for pictures that will help you practice your speech sounds, vocabulary words that you can name and things for you to read and answer questions about. Watch your mailbox and ask your parents to take a look at the “Work From Home” site!! PARENTS: PLEASE FEEL FREE TO EMAIL ME WITH YOUR QUESTIONS, COMMENTS, REQUESTS OR SUGGESTIONS! PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF THERE IS ANYTHING THAT I CAN DO TO HELP YOU OR YOUR CHILDREN THROUGH THIS CHALLENGING TIME. I CHECK MY EMAIL MANY TIMES THROUGHOUT THE DAY! Please feel free to reach me at cbonacci@rcscsd.org anytime! Sending smiles and warmest wishes to all of you!

Mrs. Flynn’s Speech Friends Update 4/15/2020
Parents, I have spoken with most of you (a lot) and let me say
THANK YOU!!!
You have been wonderful as we navigate through these google meets and create a schedule that will be best for everyone. You have been SO PATIENT during all of our technology glitches. Many students seem to be in a good place and I am able to meet with them weekly to help complete classroom assignments together.
For those students who do not have a scheduled therapy time, please contact me so we can set it up and hopefully alleviate some of their workload and stress while we target our speech goals. Most of my students are meeting with me and together we are completing assignments given by their teacher so they are not receiving MORE work.

I came across a great list of fun activities to do at home that don’t feel like work! Be sure to check it out. I have listed it on my “Favorite Links/Sites” Page as well.

A Message from Ms. Tice…
I hope you are all healthy and that the first week of “homeschool” is going well. I have emailed parents therapy packets to get started practicing skills learned in therapy. In addition, I am creating online resources with additional activities/resources for those interested. Please do not feel that you need to complete all of these resources or work on “speech” everyday. My intent is to provide short and easy review activities. Short periods of practice are generally easier for students and less overwhelming. Feel free to practice the skills during a game to increase motivation. Activities that involve writing can also just be practiced verbally if your child is “too tired.” I will be contacting families via phone and email to discuss goals and additional activities specific to your child. Please feel free to email me (jtice@rcscsd.org) if you have any questions or to provide your child with tips/instruction if needed. Stay safe and healthy!
Dear PBC families,
Thank you for working with me over the past few weeks to find the best way to make your child successful! I appreciate the time you are taking out of your hectic schedule to work with your child on their speech packets and support them as they transition to online speech therapy. This is a learning process for all of us. I welcome all suggestions to help make this process as easy as possible for your family.
Please check out my resource folder for extra activities that your child can work on when they are looking for something to do. There are reading and writing activities, as well as simple online games. Also included on the resource page are links to programs I have suggested for your child. I will update this page as I find more resources.
Stay well and hang in there!

A note from Ms. Federman~
Thank you to all my students and families who are working hard to continue their learning at home during this uncertain time. These kiddos have been working so hard on their speech and language skills this year! With your help, I am going to do my best to help them keep the skills they have gained and perhaps make more progress.
Because speech therapy is so individualized for each student, I will be in contact with families via email with activities specific to your student’s needs and goals. I will add materials to my resource folder as I am able. Unfortunately, many materials are copyrighted, so I may just refer you to a link if specific materials are needed. This is not meant to be overwhelming, so I will be sure to add activities that can make using speech and language skills fun!
The easiest and most important thing to do right now is to simply talk with your child! Language is in everything we do, so any interaction has benefits!!
I will be checking my email several times a day, so PLEASE contact me with any questions or concerns you may have. I am here to help!!

A note from Mrs. Walsh~
Hi Everyone. I hope your first week of homeschooling has gone well and that you've been able to find some time to relax amidst all the recent chaos! If your child is in the 3rd, 4th, or 5th grade, I have set up a google classroom with a few language activities to help them practice their expressive and receptive language skills (or fluency /voice) while school is out. There is absolutely no pressure to complete ALL of these assignments or to do them everyday. They are simply there as extra practice to facilitate carryover of skills they've been working on throughout the year. My hope is that your children will complete a few activities each week, and most of them are quick and fun, anyway! I will continue to add activities each week that we are off from school. If your child is currently working on their speech sounds, they should already have a few things to practice at home. Please encourage them to repeat what they say using their best speech, if they are not yet using their target sounds in conversation. Encourage them to go on a scavenger hunt each day to find items with their target sounds, and have them practice those words for you. There is also a list of speech and language websites that the speech team came up with to encourage home practice on the school's website. Please feel free to email me (jwalsh@rcscsd.org) or message me on class dojo while school is out. I will be available to answer any questions or provide your child with tips/instruction if needed. Thanks so much for your support! Happy practicing!
Much love,
Mrs. Walsh
Ms. Hall’s class and grade 6 students
I hope that all is well with you and yours during this very challenging time. All of you should have received an email message from me the week of March 16th, that contained speech work either as attachments or as links. Please email me to let me know that you received this email (or not) and if you have been able to access the materials I sent. I would love to get some feedback, so that I can make this transition to online work as easy as possible for your student.
For my grade 5 students in Ms. Hall’s class, I sent some materials that they have already used and understand how to do, as well as new materials to practice their skills.
For my grade 6 students, I created a quill.org account and sent a username and password to your email. While using quill.org, your students will be practicing grammar, punctuation, and capitalization to support their speech and language goals. I will be able to track your student’s work and provide additional assignments based on their performance. I will supplement this work with other materials based on your student’s individual needs.
PLEASE do not worry if your student is not able to complete all of the work sent to them. Everyone’s family situation is different. Whatever work they are able to do is fine. If at any time, you feel that the materials are too difficult for your student, need help to modify the work, or if you would like additional work, please do not hesitate to email me. I check my email throughout the day.
You are also supporting your student’s speech and language goals by encouraging them to read and asking them about what they’ve read, send emails to family members, or follow directions when making a recipe.
For all students, you are welcome to visit any of the websites in the additional resources or activities section. I hope to add additional resources in the near future.
Take care,
Mrs. S.
Dear Parents and Students,
I hope that you all are staying safe and healthy. Thank you, parents, for all that you are doing at home to help your children keep up with their academics. I know that these are trying and uncertain times in which we find ourselves, however, as we work together, we will pull through this challenging time stronger and better people.
In order to support your child’s speech and language goals on their IEP or 504 Plan, I have sent and will continue to send activities and assignments via email or snail mail (for those who are not connected to the web). I previously posted one document with a list of several websites that you can access to help support your child’s goals. These are just a few of the sites that I utilize and incorporate into my therapy sessions. As time goes on, I will post additional websites that you can access.
As you know, speech and language therapy is very individualized and is not a one size fits all approach. On account of this, it is not feasible to post a wide range of activities to address all the different areas that are treated in speech and language. Furthermore, many of the activities that I use are purchased from various sources and I am not able to post them because I am not the one who created the activities. I am only able to share them with you on an individual basis.
Please, if you have any questions or concerns, do not hesitate to contact me. My email is vtesch@rcscsd.org. I check my email several times throughout the day. I hope and pray that there will be a speedy resolution to this situation and that we will return to school soon. Until then, please be vigilant, exercise caution and wisdom, and stay safe and healthy.
Sincerely,
Vicki Tesch
