"Split reality (1) Night time Reality"
Oil paint on canvas
20 x 30 cm
The background of “Night time reality” is a realistic depiction of a night sky symbolising the outside perception of the silhouette, itself from the audience. The silhouette of the girl’s portrait helps merge the 2 canvas pieces together to show the difference of the working of the mind and out. The night time reality is used as a starting point of the story of how a girl slowly falls asleep. Showing us what a normal girl’s reality looks like.
"Split reality (2) Dreamland fall"
Oil paint on canvas
20 x 30 cm
This artwork displays the reality of what a girls silhouette looks like from an inside perspective. As she slowly sinks into the realm of slumber and dreams we could see the chaos of wonders yet disorienting background created by the mind. It is part of a collection that depicts dreams within the same realm of reality based upon the time and space of a different point of view from the in and outs of the mind.
"Confusion"
Oil paint on canvas
30 x 40 cm
The inspiration for this piece came from the Menhera chan official art page, created by the artist Bisuko Ezaki. From using a similar style I created a girl sitting in a pile of disorienting places with no ups and down and no sense of space or gravity. I specifically used muted colours of the background to help emphasize the contrast of the character. The drips of paint of the background and stained canvas creates an uncomfortable yet reliable feeling, which is what I wish to achieve with the audience. This is when the girl is slowly lost in thought where she would be consumed by the drips of the background.
"Morphing Bear 1"
Oil paint on canvas
30 x 40 cm
A morphing of two different spectrums of dreams and nightmares devolving from a cute and peaceful dream to a frightful nightmare. The depiction of a cute bear has subtle tones of discolouration and dark blended tones within the clouds, helping the ominous feeling closing in slightly. Though the perception of the bear looks incredibly cute from afar.
"Morphing Bear 2"
Oil paint on canvas
30 x 40 cm
Beary surprise is the epitome of a living nightmare. A simple bear pinata filled with guts. It was inspired by the pinata from the game “We Happy Few”.
The morphing is a depiction of my various dreams spinning from a magical wonderland into a devolving pit despair. Both pieces are done in a way the packaging of the piece uses a pastel colour palette semi realistic sky, still evoking a sense of familiarity to the audience viewing.
*All pieces’s edges were intentionally left incomplete as showing the sharp pull of reality and the dream land with a severe cut and unnatural split.
