"Dawn"

This digital illustration uses bright and cool pastels reminiscent of the light at dawn to convey a sense of calmness and tranquility of that time of day. The scene depicts the beginnings of a new day seen from a window. An aeroplane flying across the horizon symbolises freedom and daydreams, denoting comfort in one’s own thoughts as they wake up to a new day, a celebration of the moment of liberation from past anxiety or worries.

"Night light"

Night Lights is a digital illustration of a girl looking distantly outside of her window. The girl is hiding in her room, disregarding any responsibilities or worries as she finds herself to be entranced by the night sky. The contrast between the warm colours of the interior and the cool colours exhibited in the window denotes the internal pursuit and feeling of comfort through the escapism of external means.

"Delight"

Delight is a collection of enamel pins depicting objects and activities that provide comfort. It is a physical inventory of the activities we can do throughout the day to seek delight in solitude. The piece emphasises the importance of devoting a day to oneself to relieve stress and to give a purpose to hustle. The embroidery hoop communicates the theme of homeliness and, much like Pleasure, similarly connects to pastime activities - such as embroidery and sewing.

"Sunset"

Sunset is a digital illustration of a boy writing on a tablet. As the sun sets, he collects and reflects upon his thoughts throughout the day as he listens to music. The illustration portrays a melancholic yet blissful moment that evokes a sense of comfort and contentment through the blaze of colour cast by the sunset and the expression of fulfilment on the boy’s face.

"Sweet home"

Sweet Home is a digital piece inspired by a milk carton. The drink elicits childhood nostalgia and the comfort we offer children with a drink of milk. The carton opens up to present a dollhouse, emphasising on the theme of comfort. The piece alludes to the passage of time as one resides in the dollhouse through the setting sun. Through the use of natural colours and minimalism, the piece suggests a sense of warmth, comfort and security that is reminiscent of everyday homes.

"Embrace"

Embrace is a digital animation of a boy waking up with a phone. The title refers to the act of being embraced with one’s thoughts as they wake up to a new day and to immerse oneself in a world that is free from disturbance void from other people through the connection of technology. The piece attempts to normalise and encourage the feeling of laziness and comfort in times of turmoil and emphasises the need for solitude through the use of warm colours and soft lighting.

"PLEASURE"

Pleasure is a mixed media piece that explores comfort. A puzzle was a common pastime in the 1800s and prior to the innovation of technology. The colour scheme of the puzzle is drawn from objects that provide comfort, such as coffee, cocoa and blankets. The use of wood is reminiscent of the flooring used by houses, reminding viewers of the comfort of their own home. Additionally, the hexagonal shape represents a photo frame, symbolising nostalgia and the pursuit of comfort through memories.
