Standard 2: Establishes a safe, inclusive and respectable learning environment for a diverse population of students.
ELEMENT C: Teachers engage students as individuals, including those with diverse needs and interests, across a range of ability levels by adapting their teaching for the benefit of all students.
As explained previously, the practicum class I was a part of is an AP Art class. This class work was based on their “Sustained Investigation Question”. This is related to both Standard 2 and Element C because students are able to mend their art work to fit their Sustained Investigation question they chose. By allowing students to create work to best fit their needs, ideas, and theories, allows for there to be diversity and a wide range of abilities for both themselves and how I and the teacher teaches them. The artifact to go along to show this is image examples of students artwork.
ELEMENT A: Teachers foster a predictable learning environment characterized by acceptable student behavior and efficient use of time in which each student has a positive, nurturing relationship with caring adults and peers.
My 450 experience was not only about teaching and learning but also building relationships with the students I was surrounded by. To match both standard 2 and element A, I was able to build a positive relationship with students that bettered both their environment and behavior in the classroom. Inorder to do this I made sure to connect with students about their art, asking them questions like…”How does this piece relate to your personal life” “do you think the art your making is for yourself’ “are you enjoying what your working on, and if not how can we change that?”. These questions allowed for conversations that deepened my understanding with students that went past just the subject itself. I also made sure to ask students how they're doing, or how they feel, this way I can get an idea of what each student needs to succeed.
