Standard 1: Demonstrates mastery of and pedagogical expertise in content
ELEMENT B: Teachers develop and implement lessons that connect to a variety of content areas/disciplines and emphasize literacy and mathematics
One key artifact that correlates with both this standard and element B is Interdisciplinary teaching. One assignment given to the class was for us to pair up with peers from different content areas. We then each created 3 different lesson plans, as well as assessments, and rubrics. We picked a topic, and then chose how to teach that topic in each of our different content areas. By doing this we were taught what interdisciplinary means in the teaching field as well as how to do it with different content areas.
This shows ways teachers can implement lessons that connect to different areas of expertise.
ELEMENT C: Teachers demonstrate knowledge of the content, central concepts, inquiry, appropriate evidence-based instructional practices, and specialized characteristics of the disciplines being taught.
Another key artifact to connect to both standard 1 and element C is the first lesson plan I taught. My Practicum class was a group of AP art students, these students base their projects and work off of their “Sustained Investigation question”. Most of these students are at a high level when it comes to art, because of this they have learned almost every technique in every different kind of media. For my lesson I decided to teach students how to make bleach paintings on fabric. Not only is this something the students have not learned but also something they can implement into a project that they can change to fit their sustained investigation question. By doing this I demonstrated the knowledge of both the content they were learning as well as key concepts in order to better them as artists.
