Pads
Every skater needs to have a full set of pads, and a helmet, correctly worn, before the even stand up on skates during an RJR's practice or bout!
Knee Pads
Elbow Pads
Wrist Guards
These can be purchased individually, or as a set. Among the most popular brands are Triple Eight and 187 Killer Pads. (They are actually both sold by the same company). There are other brands as well. However, most derby players use the 187 Killer Pads Set and they run about $100 for the full set. They come in some other colors, and you can even customize the colors (for a fee).
Use RJR's loaner pads to get a feel for the sizing.
Helmet
Helmets must be certified and fit snugly. Bike helmets are not acceptable. Most skaters use a helmet from Triple Eight or from S*One. Prices start at around $55. S*One also sells helmets with visors, if that interests your skater.
