According to Carol Gray, the creator of the idea of Social Stories, “Social Stories describe a situation, skill or concept in terms of relevant social cues, perspectives and common responses in a patient and reassuring manner that is easily understood by its audience”.
In other words, social stories use words or images to explain specific occurrences, behaviors, social interactions, concepts, or skills. They are designed to benefit those with developmental delays, social issues, autism, or other difficulties with comprehension. These stories help children learn how to better cope with the world around them.
Create a social story to teach a social concept or a skill to a child with the autism spectrum disorder (ASD). To enhance your understanding of social stories, review the following materials:
