Presume Competence
Complete 3 IRIS Modules and be prepared to take a quiz on the content. In addition to the quiz, you will complete the following Progress Monitoring Project to ensure you fully understand the process and importance of Fidelity of Implementation. This assignment will take a substantial amount of time, so plan accordingly!
Step 1: Conduct a task analysis of the procedures. A task analysis is the process of breaking down activities into smaller, sequenced steps that can be easily defined and readily observed. You will submit this in our Webcourse.
Step 2: Develop an observational checklist. Two types of items should be included on the checklist. The first addresses the number of procedural steps to which you should adhere, which correspond to the items in the task analysis. The second addresses the quality of implementation—how well you implement the intervention. You will submit this in our Webcourse.
Step 3: Implement your practice and graph data. Review the IRIS modules as need to ensure you are correctly graphing your data. Submit your data here (again,
Remember:
As mentioned in the IRIS module, fidelity is best measured through the use of observational data. One way to conduct an observation is to ask a friend to watch you implementing the intervention. Alternately, you can video yourself implementing the intervention and review it later. In either case, the observer needs to complete the fidelity checklist, recording each procedural step to which you adhere, any steps that you miss, and the addition of a step or component. In general, objective observers are more accurate sources of fidelity data than are educators who monitor their own implementation.
Step 4: Determine how well you did implementing your plan:
Step 1. Determine the total number of items on the fidelity measure (excluding the quality items).
Step 2. Count the number of items you implemented correctly.
Step 3. Divide the number of items completed correctly by the total number of items.
Step 4. Change the decimal result in step three to a percentage.
