Make sure you have at least two additional resources for the students during their brain breaks. Have the resources ready prior to logging on in an additional tab (e.g., StarFall, GoNoodle)
Join the meeting and please show up on time! Turn your Camera ON.
Greet the students warmly and you will be placed in the breakout room.
Be prepared. Be sure to look through the Google Classrooms materials. Some students may have specific assignments- that's OK! Be patient and friendly and keep conversations professional and school-related.
Have extra reading and math resources handy, and if you do not know how to do what the child is asking, search it together! Say, "Let's find the answer" for example, and share the screen while searching. Talk through the process of finding supports.
Practice using the whiteboard and be ready to use this tool.
Good luck!
You will need to complete the 10 hr experience (I'm giving you planning time included!). There are doc student mentors who will be online with you to share information and support you as needed.
Steps for Success
Review the materials prior to your session.
Have some “brain break” activities in mind in case you need to re-energize the student during the session.
Arrive 5 mins before your scheduled time.
Greet the student by name and appear happy to see him/her!
Make sure to have a closure statement, such as “Today we reviewed …. I’m really happy with our progress!”
10 hours
Includes student(s) with disabilities
Must be a new activity. In other words, if you are doing your internship, for example, you would need to add a new layer such as coming in/meeting online with students with disabilities at a time outside your assigned internship days. You don't have to lead lessons- can be club, mentoring, etc.
Upload a 5-slide Powerpoint that includes the following:
Minimum of 3 images that clearly show the nature of your activity
Brief description of your activity
Contact of person who can verify your activity
