Autumn 2 - Poetry Week

Poetry Week

The week beginning Monday 9th December kicks off our Poetry Week. During the week, the children will be immersed in a range of poetry linked to winter. We have chosen to focus on the poet Shirley Hughes.

The children will learn one poem by heart called Misty (see below for a copy).

At the end of each Literacy lesson and at the end of the day, each class will read other poems by this fantastic author. Also, we will look at other poetry, so if you have any poetry books at home, please do send them in for us to dip into.

Have a read of our class poem:

You may like to share the Shirley Hughes poem ‘Misty’ at home and look for rhyming words. You can also look for adjectives (describing words), as the children will have looked at these in class.

Inspiration all around us!

As the children will be immersed in Poetry all week, they may wish to write their own winter themed poem.

Encourage your child to go outside and explore.

  • What can they see?
  • What can they hear?
  • What do they feel?
  • How could describe it?
  • How do things move in the winter?

Please send in any writing and drawings your child does with you!
