This is the system that we use in sixth grade (and up!) for assignment communication.
Each assignment, for each subject, is posted to google classroom with instructions on how to complete it and when it is due (typically that night).
Each assignment will be graded on a 3 point scale, which is described below.
At least at the beginning of the year, please check in with your child 2-3 times per week. Students are not used to having to turn all of their work in on google classroom and use it consistently, they will need your support.
Please watch this 5 minute video to understand how to use, and help your student use, Google Classroom:
This is what your child's Classroom Home page will look like.
Students are assigned to 5 separate classrooms, one per subject and a homeroom. They will also have a band or choir google classroom depending on the music class they are taking.
This is one of the most useful features on google classroom for checking assignments.
To access this list, you would click on the three lines on the classroom home page, and then the To-Do list above the classes.
It will tell you all of the current assignments that are due or in progress.
Each color corresponds to a different class.
Next to the To Do list are the "Done" assignments. These are items that your student has turned in.
This section will show you when an item was turned in, as well as what it was graded when it receives feedback.
First, go to the classwork tab on any class. Click on the View your work button.
After selecting the View your work button you can see all assignments for the class. You will find the percent grade in the upper right corner. This represents the work completion for all classwork, excluding assessments.
Please note that the percent does not include assessment scores! It’s only for work completion, which will be reflected in the report card work habits.
All homework and classwork will be graded on this scale. This is attached to every assignment (except for assessments) in Google Classroom, and can be viewed by clicking on the assignment.
All homework assignments are graded after the due date. If work is complete to the level of sixth grade standards, they will receive a 3. If a student has turned in incomplete or blank work, it will receive the appropriate grade according to the rubric. Students may resubmit an assignment within the week, but it will not receive full credit.
If students are regularly scoring “1s” and “0s”, they are in need of support to complete their homework.
As states above, homework percentages correlate to work habits grades on the report card.
PowerSchool is the system that is used for housing assessment and report card grades.
This system is set up for several different trimester, semester, and quarter systems, and so understanding your students grades can get tricky when we use standards grading.
