This is the curriculum that is used in sixth grade, it is aligned to the rest of middle and high school.
It is an extremely collaborative curriculum, which places students into teams who work together throughout each lesson to learn and solve problems. At the end of each chapter they will complete a team test to assess their mathematical practices and how they work together as a team.
Chromebook
Notebook - preferably with graph paper
Pencils
Highlighters
Math homework should be expected every night.
Math assignments are completed on paper and then turned in by submitting a photo of their assignment to google classroom and bringing their homework into class.
Students will be tested on concepts covered in the current chapter, as well as content from previous chapters throughout the year. Due to the cycling of concepts, sixth grade does not offer retakes as retake opportunities will present themselves throughout the year.
The Number System:
NS.6.1 - Divide fractions by fractions
NS.6.6 - Plot rational numbers on number lines and coordinate planes
Ratios and Proportional Relationships
RP.6.2 - Find the unit rate of a ratio and describe it using rate language
RP.6.3ab - Use strategies and reasoning to solve rate and ratio problems
Geometry
G.6.1 - Find the area of triangles, quadrilaterals, and polygons
G.6.2 - Find the volume of right rectangular prisms with fractional edge lengths using strategies the include V=lwh
G.6.4 - Represent three-dimensional figures with nets and use nets to find surface area
Expressions and Equations
EE.6.7 - Solve problems by writing equations with variables
EE.6.8 - Write inequalities like x > 10 to represent problems and I can draw number line diagrams to show the solutions for the inequality
EE.6.9 - Write an equation to show the relationship between an independent and dependent variable and analyze the relationship with graphs and tables
Statistics and Probability
SP.6.3 - Summarize data with the mean, median, or mode and describe how the data varies with the interquartile range or mean absolute deviation
SP.6.4 - Make a dot plot, histogram, and box plot to display data
SP.6.5 - Summarize data in context
Parent Guide and Lesson Videos
This document contains links to YouTube videos for most of the lessons for sixth grade math.
It also has links to:
CPM parent guides for each chapter
CPM homework help for each chapter
Khan Academy activities and practice for concepts covered in each chapter.
Hopefully this is helpful, especially when you are absent.
Standards Help
This document has each of the standards listed, that will be assessed on the student report card, and resources for each of them from:
Khan Academy
IXL.com
There are also additional skills listed that may assist your student in mastering other content as well as other websites that provide skills practice.
This is a resource that I use in the classroom to help the students practice standards.
It includes links to each standard that we test on as well as some other important concepts for mastery of sixth grade math.
There are videos for understanding and different ways to practice each concept.
