Science uses the HMH online curriculum for everyday lessons.
There are physical books provided in the classroom when necessary, but most work is complete using the online book.
Throughout the year Videos and other supplemental materials will also be provided.
Students take notes on the lesson and answer questions, as well as completing quizzes and culminating projects to demonstrate their learning.

Science will mostly involve in class reading, notes and activities. Homework is not typically assigned unless students do not complete it during class.
To learn to apply the concepts we teach in Science students will often create culminating projects. These projects are sometimes worked on during class and sometimes completed strictly at home. Information and instructions about the projects will always be available in Google Classroom and notifications of upcoming projects will be announced in the weekly newsletter.
In Science there are often Quizzes at the end of each week. Students are scored on a 3,2,1 scale. As Science concepts are not spiraled throughout the year, students are given the option of a retake form if they do not score a 3. These forms are available in google classroom under the class resources topic. Students can make a copy of the form, follow the directions to complete it, attach it to the quiz assignment, and resubmit the quiz for a chance at a better score. Retakes will only be accepted until the end of the trimester.

How to Help
Science is one of the most difficult subjects for sixth graders.
Due to the AP alignment of the curriculum, it is very different from previous years where memorization is key. Now students are expected to be able to apply the information they learn to different contexts.
Students should be studying for science quizzes each week. The week is structured to introduce students to the concept of the week, to work through the reading as a class, a day to practice and apply the information, and finally a quiz.
You can help your student by working to see if they understand the concepts. Have them explain to you what they are learning. Have them make flashcards.
In the curriculum, there are also additional resources like "apply it" or "self-made study guides" that we do not complete in class that they can utilize to study.
Additional Resources
Some websites have science pages that can be very helpful for specific science topics:
Khan Academy
IXL.com
There are also many many many YouTube videos on these concepts that can help students with understanding the material.
