2027 Auditions

Audition Outline

The auditions are conducted in a positive and supportive learning environment. All students will be provided with video tutorials to learn the audition combination/s. The audition provides the students with the opportunity to learn a short combination via video tutorial, perform the combination for a panel and complete technique sequences taught by a Dance staff member on the audition day. The audition panel includes a variety of permanent dance staff and eisteddfod dance staff members. 

Required Steps

   2. Parents complete the audition registration form linked below

   3. Attend the learning session/s and/or use the video tutorials to practice

   4. Check the announcement of the groups when it is published in Term 4

   5. If you are successful, your parents will be able to register you in the relevant team and they will need to register you for a Supplement class through the Co-curricular registration system.

Students who are not able to attend the audition must still register and indicate an absence audition. Students not able to attend the catch up audition will be required to submit a video for grading.

Selection Process

Selection and casting for all Dance groups are determined annually, based solely on the calibre and skill sets demonstrated by students at the audition process for that year. Placement in a group in one year does not guarantee, imply, or carry over to selection or placement in subsequent years. Each audition is assessed independently by a panel of experienced dance teachers, on its own merits, ensuring that all students are considered fairly and consistently against the current standard required for that cohort.

Group structures, numbers, and configurations may be altered from year to year to best suit the needs, size, and skill level of each cohort. 

Skills Necessary - A guide only

• • Clean single pirouette (or potential double)

  • Dance progressions (gallops, kicks, leaps, turns)

  • Strong stage presence and musicality

  • Strong technique and flexibility 

What to wear to the audition

• Leggings / bike short / leotard

• PE shirt / House shirt or any form fitting singlet top - no mid-drifts

• Jazz shoes - Jazz audition

• Ballet shoes, foot thongs or bare feet - Lyrical audition

• Sneakers with black soles - Hip Hop Audition

• To assist with fairness and the identification of students in the audition we request that no Pymble Dance Uniform shirt is to be worn. 

Junior Audition Schedule (Year 3 to 6, 2027)

Video tutorials will be published on the website on Friday 18 September. Please ensure you have entered the correct email for the parent and student in the registration form.

All auditions will be held in the Pymble Dance Centre. No parent is permitted to watch any audition.

Audition Arrival: Students are required to arrive at 8.30am to register. Students will receive their audition number in the session.

Junior Lyrical (Year 5 and 6, 2027)

Tutorial Video: Friday 18 September
Audition Session: Friday 9 October, 9.00am to 11.00am in Dance Studio 1 and 2 *Compulsory
Audition Arrival: Students are required to arrive at 8.30am to register. Students will receive their audition number in the session.

Junior Jazz (Year 3 and 4, 2027)

Audition Session: Friday 9 October, 11.30am to 1.30pm in Dance Studio 3 and 4 *Compulsory
Audition Arrival: Students are required to arrive at 11.00am to register. Students will receive their audition number in the session.

Junior Jazz (Year 5 and 6, 2027)

Audition Arrival: Students are required to arrive at 11.00am to register. Students will receive their audition number in the session.

Junior Hip Hop Crew (Year 3 to 6, 2027)

Tutorial Video: Friday 18 September
Audition Session: Friday 9 October, 2.00pm to 3.30pm in Dance Studio 1 and 2 *Compulsory
Audition Arrival: Students are required to arrive at 1.30pm to register. Students will receive their audition number in the session.

Optional Holiday Workshops

We will be holding optional face to face Holiday Workshops for the 2026 Performance Dance Auditions. All workshops will include a warm up, technique training and audition combinations. Students will be provided with video tutorials by the end of Term 3 to learn the combinations for the style they wish to audition for. The workshops is an opportunity to rehearse the combination and gain confidence in the lead up to the audition sessions.

Dates: Wednesday 30 September, Thursday 1 October and Friday 2 October
Year 3 and 4: Jazz - 10.30am to 12.00pm, Lyrical - 9.00am to 10.30am, Hip Hop - 1.00pm to 2.30pm
Year 5 and 6: Jazz - 9.00am to 10.30am, Lyrical - 10.30am to 12.00pm, Hip Hop - 1.00pm to 2.30pm
Cost: $20.00 per session
